Anita Ozoliņa’s farm, “Daugavieši”, is situated in Dunava, right on the banks of the Daugava. To live and farm here, you have to be resilient and come to terms with the laws of nature. Anita explains that in early spring, when the river bursts its banks, some of the farm buildings are almost completely submerged for several days. However, when the Daugava subsides and returns to its bed, it leaves behind floodplain meadows teeming with a wide variety of plants. Cuckoo flowers, buttercups and other meadow dwellers grow here in abundance!
Anita has both knowledge and a knack for getting things done – she gathers medicinal plants from her own meadows, which she uses to make fragrant herbal teas and salt scrubs. The power of the river and the scent of the meadows in every packet!
If there’s an opportunity to learn something new, Anita will certainly make the most of it – and get other Dunava residents involved too. So it’s entirely possible that another meadow-based product will soon be created. Anita has no shortage of ideas; they’re inspired by nature itself – and in particular, the natural meadows of the Daugava region.
