"Grassland Product" label launch

img-72.jpgOn January 31, at a gala event at the Botania Environmental Education Centre in the National Botanical Garden, the Latvian Fund for Nature (LDF) launched the "Grassland Product" label to the general public. We have been working very hard over the last year. We have been working with producers, talking to chefs, gourmets, traders to create the first product brand that shows the added value of nature.

During the event, we awarded the label to the first 17 producers. Their products include meadow beef, goat cheese, sheep and lamb, meadow teas, honey, handicrafts and meadow tourism services.

Farmers and landowners who manage natural meadows and produce products related to them will now be eligible for the 'Grassland Product' label. The LDF will monitor producers' eligibility and decide on the award of the label, provide materials to promote the label on products and in producer marketing, and promote the label to consumers to encourage the purchase of products. The LDF will also advise interested parties who are not currently producing products but who own natural grasslands and are also interested in production. The LDF aims to label at least 100 natural meadow products by the end of this year and to introduce the label to as wide a range of gourmets, chefs, healthy eating enthusiasts and food traders as possible.
