The “I’m Growing!” campaign will highlight products from natural meadows

2 May 2024

Is it wrong to boast? No, sometimes it’s not! You can and should boast about good deeds, especially if it’s done with the aim of helping natural meadows. In May, the Latvian Nature Fund is launching the “I’ll Grow!” campaign to involve as many people as possible in the restoration of natural meadows.

The campaign involves natural meadow managers who have already recognised the potential of meadows and produce various products or offer services derived from natural meadows, labelling them with the “Natural Meadow Product”. This will showcase high-quality products made with passion, which demonstrate environmentally friendly farming practices – meadow beef, sausages, dumplings and other meat products, sheep’s milk products, lamb, goat’s cheese, honey, meadow teas, meadow herb powders, syrups, as well as various handicrafts and meadow tourism.

“Our producers of natural meadow products have achieved a great deal through their hard work and enthusiasm. They hold the meadow close to their hearts; they work with the aim of preserving and increasing biodiversity on their land, and produce high-quality products or offer services for which there is demand in Latvia. These products are labelled with a special “Natural Meadow Product” mark.  By purchasing them, consumers receive high-quality products with reliable information about their origin,” explains Inga Muižniece, project manager at the Latvian Nature Fund, “We want to share our producers” achievements and encourage other meadow managers to join our group of Meadow Friends!”

The aim of the campaign is to draw attention to high-quality local products; by purchasing them, everyone contributes to the conservation of natural meadows. Producers of meadow products will be offering their goods at markets and summer events, where product tastings will also take place. Together with the Latvian Nature Fund, producers of natural meadow products will take part in the Herb Market in Doma Square. The Latvian Nature Fund will also offer regular educational seminars, both online and in person, to both existing and aspiring meadow product producers.

Meadow managers who produce products or offer services derived from natural meadows are invited to apply by completing Application or by emailing [email protected].

Natural meadows are one of the most endangered habitats in Latvia; they now cover just 0.9% of the country’s territory. Their conservation and restoration depend directly on human economic activity, which is why, through this campaign, the Latvian Nature Fund is calling on people to support the conservation of biodiversity and producers of meadow-friendly products.

The campaign is being run as part of the EU LIFE-IP LatViaNature project, with the aim of supporting entrepreneurship in the sustainable management of natural grasslands.
