On 31 January, at a ceremony held at the “Botania” Environmental Education Centre at the National Botanical Garden, the Latvian Nature Fund (LDF) unveiled the “Natural Meadow Product” label to the general public. We have been working very hard over the past year. We have collaborated with producers and spoken to chefs, foodies and retailers to create the first product label that highlights the added value of nature.
During the event, we awarded the label to the first 20 producers. Their product range includes grass-fed beef, goat’s cheese, sheep and lamb meat, meadow teas, honey, handicrafts, as well as meadow-based tourism services.
The “Natural Meadow Product” label will henceforth be available to farmers and landowners who manage natural meadows and produce related products. The LDF will carry out compliance checks on producers and decide on the award of the label; it will provide materials for the label’s implementation on products and in producers’ marketing, as well as promoting the label to consumers to encourage the purchase of these products. The LDF will also advise interested parties who do not currently produce any products but who own natural meadows and are interested in starting production. The LDF’s aim is to award the label to at least 100 natural meadow products by the end of this year, as well as to introduce the label to as wide a range as possible of gourmets, chefs, healthy eating enthusiasts and food retailers as possible.

The owner of the "Natural Meadow Product" label is Latvian Nature Fund.
The brand was created as part of the LIFE19IPE/LV/000010 LIFE-IP LatViaNature project, with the aim of promoting business initiatives for the sustainable management of natural grasslands.
