The Zaube Wilderness Festival – a place where nature, farming, food and people come together

At the “Natural Meadow Produce” festival, visitors were able to sample “Pļavas” beef from the farm of organic farmer Jurijs Prokofjevs at Sita Nature Park. The Cēsis Meat Factory helps to continue the story of natural meadow produce, where beef from cattle reared in natural meadows is processed so that it reaches the consumer as ‘Meadow Beef’ products.

At the festival, Rūta Sniedze Kretalova, a natural grassland expert from the Latvian Nature Fund; Ance Sniķere, a representative of the Latvian Agricultural Advisory Centre (LLKC) and coordinator of the “Natural Meadow Product” initiative; and Alma Spangere, a representative of the Cēsis Meat Processing Plant.

It is not only what happens in the meadow that matters, but also what happens afterwards. For natural meadow products to become part of our everyday choices, they must be accessible to the consumer.

Various natural meadow products can be purchased at each producer’s own retail outlets. Meanwhile, Pļavas beef is available at the Cēsis Meat Processing Plant’s “Gaļas bode” shops in Cēsis and at Āgenskalns Market.

By choosing Pļavas meat and other natural meadow products, we are not only supporting local producers. We are supporting farming practices that help to preserve natural meadows and the ecosystem services they provide.
