Meadow Flavours Day 2025 in the Sita and Pededze floodplains

On 5 July, the third ‘Tastes of the Meadow’ event took place in the floodplains of the Sita and Pededze rivers, organised by the Latvian Nature Fund in collaboration with Sita Nature Park the host, Jurijs Prokofjevs. We enjoyed an exciting 8 km walk and a meadow bingo game together with Līga Gavari and Baiba Strazdiņa – experts from the Latvian Nature Fund, who outlined the natural meadow ecosystem. Jānis Ķuze helped us clearly hear the sounds of the wetland birdlife. Elita Melne demonstrated which meadow plants have medicinal properties and which should be added to a health drink – oxymel.
Visitors were able to discover and sample natural meadow produce, prepared at the event by head chef Rūdolfs Šteinbergs – dishes featuring meadow-raised beef and venison, complemented by marinades and sauces made from meadow herbs.
