The deadline for submitting applications for the small grants scheme organised by the Latvian Nature Fund and its partner organisations, which focuses on ideas for innovative meadow-based products and their implementation, has now passed.
A total of 28 applications were received.
The resources of the meadows have sparked a wealth of brilliant ideas, all of which are aligned with the competition’s aim – to promote the management of natural meadows and their integration into business activities.
The applications cover a wide variety of categories of meadow-related products and services, ranging from food products and meadow tourism services to technical innovations that would significantly improve the market performance of existing products.
The majority of the innovations submitted were developed with the aim of fulfilling educational, nature conservation and ecotourism functions.
Significant emphasis has been placed on promoting a healthy lifestyle amongst the Latvian public.
The assessment of grant applications has begun.
The committee, comprising representatives from the Latvian Nature Fund, the Latvian Rural Advisory and Education Centre and the Nature Conservation Agency, will conclude its work at the end of January – at which point the winners of the competition will be announced!
The owner of the "Natural Meadow Product" label is Latvian Nature Fund.
The brand was created as part of the LIFE19IPE/LV/000010 LIFE-IP LatViaNature project, with the aim of promoting business initiatives for the sustainable management of natural grasslands.
The project "Optimisation of the Management and Stewardship of Natura 2000 Protected Areas" (LIFE19IPE/LV/000010 LIFE-IP LatViaNature) is being implemented with financial support from the European Union’s LIFE programme and the State Regional Development Agency.
