“Goat’s cheese” from natural meadows!

Dainis Erbss is an experienced goat farmer and cheese maker from Tume Parish in Tukums Municipality. Together with his partner Tatjana, he runs the “Dāri” smallholding, where they keep a herd of around 100 goats. Ever since December 2009, when the farm was registered, Dainis has devoted himself entirely to goat farming, making the most of nature’s bounty to produce high-quality goat’s milk products.

“The ”Dāru” farm pays particular attention to the management of natural meadows, preserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable land use. The goats are kept in an environment where they can graze freely, selecting for themselves the highest-quality grass from the farm’s meadows. This principle of free-range grazing not only promotes animal welfare but also ensures excellent milk quality – rich in flavour and nutrients.

Dainis uses the milk he collects to make cheese, utilising the heat from a wood-burning stove, which gives the product a unique authenticity and character. The cheese-making process takes several hours, and there are more than 16 different flavours on offer – with caraway, dill, walnuts, chilli peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, garlic and other natural additions that will appeal to every food lover.

“At the ”Dāru” farm, everyone can not only buy produce but also experience the rural way of life. Visitors are invited to meet the goats, go tea-picking and spend the night in a rural guest cottage, where the tranquillity of nature reigns and the air is filled with the scent of meadows.
