The “Jaunaizpurnieki” farm in Umurga Parish, Limbaži Municipality, is a farm where natural meadows are not merely grazing land – they are an asset that the farmer, Eduards Puriņš, consciously preserves and maintains. Meadow diversity, sustainable farming and respect for nature form the basis for every decision made on the farm.

“Jaunaizpurnieki” have opted for a relatively unconventional approach in Latvia – the farm purchases both dairy and beef calves, which are reared and fattened by making the most of the benefits offered by natural pastures. The pastures provide the animals with a varied and natural feed source, whilst helping to maintain biologically valuable grasslands and preserve their rich plant diversity.

The careful management of natural grasslands, regular maintenance and respect for natural processes are an integral part of the farm’s daily routine. This approach helps to preserve Latvia’s natural heritage, whilst producing high-quality beef.
