Cooperation between nature and humankind – livestock farming in the Piebalga hills in harmony with the rhythms of nature

With the aim of running an environmentally friendly, sustainable farm and preserving Latvia’s rural landscape, the Āboliņi family in Taurene parish has established a thriving organic beef cattle farm SIA “Āboliņkalns”. Having started out with just their own resources and a small plot of land, Inese and Jānis now manage around 300 hectares of land, providing high-quality fodder for their thriving herd.  Life and work in the picturesque hills of Taurene require the ability to adapt to the rhythms of nature and the terrain. The Āboliņi family treat this environment with respect and responsibility, rearing Limousin beef cattle, which are looked after with great care and love. The animals are provided with a peaceful and natural environment, where they spend most of their time on extensive, biologically valuable pastures. By grazing in these areas, the cattle not only help to preserve the unique and botanically valuable meadow ecosystem, but also enrich their own diet with a variety of meadow plants. The animals’ free-range lifestyle and a diet based solely on organic fodder grown and prepared on the farm itself ensure that the meat is of outstanding quality, with a natural flavour and high nutritional value.
