In Skaņkalne Parish, Valmiera Municipality, the “Ķeiķi” farm has been developing sheep farming for more than ten years, combining the production of high-quality food with the management of permanent grassland. In the extensive pastures, both the farm’s flock of sheep and the Latvian countryside – shaped by the collaboration between people and nature – thrive and flourish.

Perennial grasslands, including those of high ecological value, play a significant role in the areas managed by the farm. Regular grazing helps to maintain the natural diversity of these areas, prevents them from becoming overgrown and creates suitable conditions for many species of plants, insects and birds. In Ķeiķi, sheep are not only the backbone of the farm but also play a vital role in preserving the landscape and natural heritage.

Under the “Jēru klubs” brand, the farm has become known not only as a producer of high-quality lamb, but also as a place to learn about sheep farming and the rural way of life. The sheep reared on the farm spend most of the year grazing, making use of the diverse grassland resources. This contributes to the quality of the produce and ensures a close connection between farming and the surrounding environment.

The farm offers lamb and lamb products. At Ķeiķi, they strive to make the most of everything that sheep farming has to offer – sheep’s wool is used to produce yarn and wool pellets for soil fertilisation and mulching, whilst sheep fat is used to make natural soap. This approach enables the creation of a diverse range of local products and allows the farm to operate according to the principles of the circular economy.
