Jānis is a beekeeper with extensive experience and a desire to conserve natural resources. He developed an interest in bees from a very young age. This was hardly surprising, as there were beekeepers in his family and among his relatives. However, he went on to study agronomy. Afterwards, Jānis spent many years heading the Institute of Agriculture at LLU (now LBTU) in Skrīveri and was involved in research work. Nevertheless, bees have always been his passion. When he purchased meadows in the vicinity of the Teiči Nature Reserve, he trained as a beekeeper and now manages the natural grassland areas, producing honey and harvesting forage, putting all his knowledge to good use.

Jānis is, by nature, a researcher who wants to try out different things and find out what works best and is most useful, Moreover, his research is based on rational calculations, whether it be efficient beekeeping, new plants that bees like, or the production of forage. Jānis’s bees live in vertical hives, as he finds it more convenient when the bees occupy the lower section and a honey chamber is placed on top of them, which can be extended upwards.
