Laura works in Riga on a daily basis, but whenever she has a spare moment, she heads off with her family to their country home in Elkšņi, in the Jēkabpils district, and then – out into her beautiful meadows and to tend her bees!

Natural meadows and their management are a labour of love for Laura and her husband Edvarts. They have spotted many indicator species of natural meadows there, as well as protected meadow plants, and each year they observe with curiosity and interest what has come into bloom during the season. Increasing the diversity of plants in their meadows is an exciting challenge for them! And, of course, bees love these beautifully flowering meadows!

Laura grew up alongside bees. Ever since she was a child, she has been visiting the apiary with her grandfather and gained her first insights even back then. Laura’s main job is in a different field, but she has maintained her interest in beekeeping all along. She studied on courses run by the Latvian Beekeepers’ Association for two years and has been working independently with bees since 2014.

Laura is also keen on growing flowers, photography and baking delicious cakes! Her signature treat is a special 10-layer honey cake.

Laura’s honey is made up of a variety of flowering plants found in natural meadows – and so is the nectar, collected from a wide variety of plants throughout the season. See for yourselves!
