“Janavas” – in harmony with the ancient valley of the Daugava 

The “Janavas” farm is situated within the picturesque Daugava Nature Park, which was established to protect the unique natural heritage of the ancient Daugava valley. This place is special for its rich diversity of flower species – two-thirds of Latvia’s entire flora can be found here, including protected and rare species such as wild anemones, Daugava buttercups and wild gladioli. 

In 2023, the farm celebrated its 30th anniversary. “Janavas” is a certified organic farm, and for many years now, the bounty of the meadows here has been transformed into teas, hydrosols and other natural products, created by combining traditional knowledge with modern processing methods. Herbal teas derive their distinctive flavour and aroma from the diverse flora of the ancient Daugava valley, home to delicate meadow flowers, valuable medicinal plants and humble woodland herbs. Hydrosols are produced by distilling freshly harvested plants to preserve as much of the active ingredients and fragrance as possible.

 “Janavas” is happy to share the values of the meadows – the former farm building has been adapted to accommodate tourist groups, and guests are offered the chance to take part in workshops, learn about the health benefits of organic plants, enjoy a cup of tea and the sense of togetherness.  

A special feature of the farm is the Nature Trail, which winds its way through a flowering meadow and invites visitors to discover the plants in their natural habitat. A walk along the trail offers the chance not only to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the meadow, but also to encounter a unique natural wonder – the “BĀBU” spring. It once flowed along the banks of the Daugava, but has now found a new path underground and emerges here, in the bend of the meadow. According to test results, the spring’s clear and refreshing water ranks among the 20 cleanest springs in Latvia. 

Guests also have the option of staying in a well-equipped glamping tent, situated on the edge of the forest, surrounded by meadows, with a beautiful view of the Daugava – a place where you can experience the closeness of nature and the tranquillity of the morning.
